European Study on the Burden and Care of Epilepsy (ESBACE)

ESBACE is a pan-European research project to facilitate the development of high-quality epilepsy care at all stages of the disease, equitable across EU countries. ESBACE will provide data on the burden of epilepsy and on current provision and organization of care in selected EU member states as well as a comparison of the standards of care. Funding is being secured from the European Commission for this research project.

ESBACE’s first objective is to define appropriate standard methods for a population-based study of prevalence, cost and stigma of epilepsy, and also to survey organization and quality of epilepsy care.
